Pilsen pleasantly surprised us. Over the course of two days, we managed to visit several places that we would confidently recommend to other families. Whether you are planning a weekend trip or looking for inspiration for a day visit, we have an itinerary for you that worked perfectly, even with small children.
We started our visit at DEPO2015, a former industrial complex that now serves as a cultural and community center. The biggest attraction for kids is the large, shaded playground where they can play safely while parents relax in the adjacent cafe with light snacks.
Throughout the year, festivals, exhibitions, and theatrical performances take place here. Moreover, during the summer holidays, fairy tales and theater performances for children are held every Thursday from 4:00 PM with a voluntary entrance fee. If you happen to be in Pilsen on a Thursday, we highly recommend planning a visit here.
For dinner, we headed to the restaurace Štipec, which we discovered among the recommendations from Visit Plzeň. Although the restaurant doesn’t have a classic children’s menu, the staff was incredibly welcoming and accommodating. They are very used to having kids around, and we felt completely comfortable. The food was excellent, and both the adults and the children left fully satisfied.
After dinner, we treated ourselves to a sweet finish with premium artisanal ice cream from Zigolo. They offer both scooped and soft-serve ice cream, and we were absolutely thrilled with both options. If you are walking through the center of Pilsen, you definitely need to make a stop here.
For the night, we stayed at Apartsee, which we booked through Booking.
The accommodation operates entirely without a reception; everything is handled online. There are nine apartments of various sizes available. The building also features a wellness area, and breakfast can be ordered for an additional fee. Breakfast works on a self-service basis—prepared ingredients and fresh pastries are ready in a shared kitchenette, allowing everyone to make breakfast exactly to their liking.
We started our second day at the Walter Mitty cafe.
If you love specialty coffee and fresh pastries, you will be just as thrilled as we were. The cafe is connected to its own bakery, so you can choose from croissants, donuts, cakes, and other sweet and savory treats. They also offer a fantastic brunch menu and a pleasant outdoor seating area.
Just a few steps away is the Le Frenchie cafe, which also looked very tempting. We didn’t have time to try it this time around, but it is definitely on our list for our next visit.
After breakfast, we took a walk to the Techmania Science Center. The journey takes about 20 minutes on foot and is definitely worth it. We ended up spending almost six hours there, and our kids left completely ecstatic.
Techmania offers dozens of interactive exhibits that both children and adults can try out firsthand. A massive bonus is the extensive children’s zone, designed primarily for kids from about 3 to 8 years old. You will find a large slide, musical experiments, climbing frames, and plenty of other activities.
The entire complex is wheelchair-accessible, and there is a restaurant with refreshments, as well as a shop selling souvenirs and educational toys.
Right across from Techmania is the 3D Planetarium, and admission is included in the Techmania ticket. We didn’t manage to visit it this time, but it is definitely on the agenda for our next trip.
If you have more time in Pilsen or are planning a longer weekend stay, we highly recommend adding a visit to the Pilsen Zoo, which is connected to the DinoPark. We couldn’t fit it in this time, but it is one of the most popular family destinations in the city, and we will definitely head there on our next excursion.
