A Practical Guide for Parents
When a child gets injured or falls ill, it rarely happens on a quiet Tuesday morning. More often, it’s on a Friday evening, during a public holiday, or late on a Sunday night — when most doctors’ offices are closed and parents’ stress levels are rising. Knowing where to go before you actually need it can save you time, money, and unnecessary anxiety. Here is a simple overview of the types of medical care available for children outside regular office hours.

What Is Emergency Service and What Is Urgent Care?

Pediatric Emergency Service

  • It is a department with extended opening hours.
  • It is intended for sudden changes in a child’s health condition.
  • It also serves cases where an existing illness worsens outside the office hours of your registered general practitioner.

Urgent Care

  • Operates continuously, 24/7.
  • Intended for patients with acute symptoms of serious illness, such as chest pain, shortness of breath, or breathing difficulties, and also for serious injuries.
  • Urgent care is also designated for patients transported by ambulance.
